The start of the Uinta Highline Trail near Flaming Gorge. The Highline Trail a 104-mile trail that follows the crest of the Uinta Range in Northeastern Utah from McKee Draw west to the Mirror Lakes Highway. It takes you through some of Northern Utah’s most beautiful mountain terrain and highest peaks. Most of the trail is above treeline between 11,000 and 12,000 feet. We ran the first few miles to see what it was like.

At mile 3.5 you come upon “Big Park” at 9000 feet. It is a beautiful grassy area with cows grazing. The first 25 miles of the Highline Trail are a mixture of Forrests and meadows, after which, the next 80 miles cross 8 mountain passes and travel through mostly high-alpine terrain.

As we got closer to Little Hole the trail basically disappeared in the brush. Too much Poison Ivy forced us to turn around about a mile before Little Hole.
