Zion 100K Trail Race
Staci and I set off for Southern Utah to run the Zion 100K Ultramarathon. 100K is about 62 miles and the race takes place just outside Zion and has spectacular views. Our friends Jed and Vanessa joined us for the race. Jed ran with us and Vanessa supported us and ran the last 20 miles with us (she is recovering from an injury and could not do the whole race).
Charging our Tesla in Cedar City Utah. Next to the Tesla Supercharger was a Sinclair gas station with the usual Brontosaurus on display.
We spent the day before the race in Zion and tried to climb Angels Landing, but unfortunately the top section was closed for maintenance.
April is a beautiful time to visit Zion.
The Wildflower Resort in Virgin has amazing Glamping in covered wagons (we didn’t stay there though).
Pioneer Park in St. George, Utah.
Staci, Rich, Vanessa and Jed - dinner the night before the race.
The start of the ion 100K.
Running along Gooseberry Mesa early in the race.
Morning at the top of Gooseberry Mesa.
Jed and Staci running hard.
Heading down the steepest part of the course into the Virgin desert.
Running along the Virgin River. Much of Zion canyon was shaped by the Virgin River.
Still smiling far into the race.
Staci pushing along Wire Mesa at sunset. Vanessa supported us throughout the race and stayed with us for the last 15-20 miles.
